I took this photos on 2008, March 24th. There were, after a winter without snow, snow in March and the sunset was giving some rosa colour to the overfloading meadows. Photo taken in Pont-sur-Sambre.

Duckie was on the picture below and now you can look at her beloved Ducky looking for her. They were both at the nautic base of Pont-sur-Sambre last autumn. Hope Duckie and Ducky survived the winter and the bird disease and they are always swimming on the river Sambre. We can see that Duckie has grey brown feathers and Duckie a mixture of colours with a green head.. They are called in french Canards Col Vert.

A duckie before the bird desease came to France. Now it's again allright for the birds. I hope this little Duckie could survive. To look at my virtual pet Duckie look at this blog (below of the page). When I shall go to holydays you shall can give her to eat.

These two neighbors have different meanings about life. Their doors show it.

This is in Gommegnies, West-Avesnois on the other side of the Forest of Mormal. Near Le Quesnoy.

In the village of Gommegnies in the West Avesnois, where almost all the houses are out of bricks (they have not the blue stones like in the rest of the Avesnois), this front part of a corner house with its classic frontispiece and its yellow color, makes a contrast to the rest of the house and of the

25. Two houses : a good and an old crumbling house.

I don't know if these two houses have the same owner, but one of them ( I think it is no house but only to behold the hay) is crumbling down (picture below). The picture of right is the house of right with the road. It is an historic picture to photoraph something that perhaps in a few years is no more there or have not anymore the same apperance, because I think in a few years either the house of left is crumbleld down or renoved and looks then like the house of the right.

I begin here another thema in this blog of "Avesnois our of time". Another season : the early spring. I begin here with some photos I toke at the end of this April in the village Gommegnies near Le Quesnoy., West Avesnois. This part of the Avesnois is called :"Le Plateau Quercitain".
I already published some photos of Gommegnies in the blog "Pont-sur-Sambre and Avesnois out of Time" and "Chapelles-Colonnes et Oratoires de l'Avesnois".

This little tower is not from a town-tower and not from a church tower but at the top of an house, so a sort of "Maison de maître".

Here the church of Pont-sur-Sambre from the side. It is the church Notre-Dame de Quartes or Our Lady of Quartes. The street which is leading to the Bachant Bridge is called also "rue Notre-Dame", and the first EDF-City you can find on this road coming from the church (A town district which was first built for the workers of the France Electricity "Elecricité de France") is called Cité Notre-Dame or Our Lady City. The street and the city have their name from this church.

21. A big master house of 1880.

These houses which are big and large and alone in a garden with a gatter, which have an architecture which loks a little like a castle are called "Maison de maître" (Master Houses). These houses where those of the bosses of the industry. Here in Pont were no great industry at this time but a few middle enterprises which had to do with transformation of iron. Nowadays in these sort of houses live doctors or lawyers, what we call the "professions libérales", the free standing jobs.

I find the electric lines are not very esthetical. It is the case on many photos. They are always in corners where a beautiful view is to do...

20. Table with snow

On the first sunday of December, a garden table is full with snow. So that nobody could think to eat on it. You can see how the top of the hang flower recipient is staying above the snow. On some trees were still autumn leaves.

19. Snow of December : the day after.

Here you can see on the bush of roses... there are still autumn leaves on it and I think a dozen of frozen roses. When the weather is not hard roses can stay until Christmas and sometimes until the begin of January. Then they come in June again. Perharps at the end of May. In December 2005 they went away with the big fall of snow at the first saturday of December. I made this picture on the Sunday and the snow was already in a great part smelt. On the Saturday no car could ride in our street, and it was not easy for cars in the whole region. I think 50cm snow fell at the day and it is very much here.

It looks like the Bretagne, but it isn't. It is the North of France in the Indian Summer of Late October 2005. You can look also at the small fountain that is in the hedge.

3. Roses of Indian Summer

The summer was very long like the winter now is very long. In october we had the Indian Summer and in November the St Martin's Summer. This were the Indian Summer Roses or the Autumn Roses. Roses can last long 'til in the December and it is here no wonder to have roses at the Christmas Time, but instead of this this year the spring is not coming. It's very cold this evening in spite of the blue sky.
